Laboratory testing is a critical component of healthcare delivery for both ambulatory and hospitalized patients. However, laboratory service requests and related expenditures are increasing at a rapid rate that may create service challenges for some clinical laboratories and for the healthcare system in general. At the same time, there is increasing national and international awareness that not all tests and/or treatments benefit patients to the same degree, and there is growing interest in addressing overutilization. This Symposium will bring together clinicians, healthcare system leaders, and laboratory personnel interested in exploring challenges and opportunities in laboratory utilization. Leading experts and change makers will discuss data estimating the extent of overutilization in lab medicine, and strategies to address the problem. If you are a clinician, pathologist, clinical laboratory director, manager, laboratory technologist, or trainee interested in appropriate lab testing then this Symposium is for you.
This event is financially supported by a number of industry and non-profit organizations. However all funding has been entirely arms length. Sponsors have had no influence on the content or speaker selection for the event.
